When you should get it
The travel company should give you an ATOL Certificate as soon as you pay any money towards a protected booking, including a deposit. It's usually emailed with your booking confirmation.
If you change your booking, for example by adding a person or changing dates, you should receive an updated certificate.
What it should show
| Section | What to check |
|---|---|
| ATOL holder | The name and ATOL number of the company protecting your booking. It should match the register. |
| Passengers | The name of everyone travelling who is covered. |
| Flights and services | Each part of your trip that's protected, such as flights, hotels and car hire. |
| Dates | Your travel dates and the date the certificate was issued. |
| Reference | A unique certificate or booking reference. |
If you booked through an agent who is a member of an Accredited Body, the certificate will name the Accredited Body as the ATOL holder. That's normal.
Check the ATOL holder on the certificate
Search the ATOL number shown on your certificate using our check page. The company should be on the register with a current licence.
If you don't receive one
- Ask the company for it in writing, and keep a copy of your request.
- Don't pay any more money until you have it.
- If the company refuses or can't explain why your booking isn't protected, you can report it to the CAA.
Keep your certificate safe. Save it with your booking confirmation, and take a copy with you when you travel. You'll need it to make a claim if the company fails.
